Service Connection Policy & FAQ

Prince William Water does not have a mandatory connection policy. Required connection to public water and sanitary sewer systems is directed by Prince William County’s Code of Ordinances Sec. 32-250.74. Development to Be on Public Water and Sec. 32-250.75. Development to be on Public Sewer.  There is a mandatory connection to the public water system for new development on existing lots in Bull Run Mountain and a mandatory connection to the public sanitary sewer system for new construction in Yorkshire. In order to treat all customers fairly, property owners in unserved areas of Prince William County who want to connect to the system must pay the cost to extend distribution or collection lines from existing Prince William Water mains to their property as well as the applicable Availability Fees.

Development density is strictly regulated by the Prince William County Planning Commission and Board of County Supervisors through rezoning based on the Comprehensive Plan. Prince William Water assesses new developments for utility service availability within these guidelines.
