Service Authority Wins National Award for Operational Efficiency

The Prince William County Service Authority has received the inaugural Trimble Infinity Award for Excellence in Capital Program and Infrastructure Asset Lifecycle Management. This award recognizes outstanding achievements in capital program and infrastructure management among utilities, city, county and state governments, as well as educational institutions.

The Service Authority received its award in the category of “Enterprise-wide Problem-Solving” for how it utilizes Cityworks – a computerized maintenance system that helps local governments and utility agencies manage capital assets, workflows, communication and permits.

Cityworks is designed to transform infrastructure management by integrating Geospatial (GIS) data. It allows organizations to effectively manage land development permits and work performed on horizontal and vertical assets, such as water mains, sewer mains, elevated water tanks, hydrants and pumping stations. The application streamlines processes and workflows that increase communications between departments. By having data in real time, it enables more efficient communication between Service Authority employees.

By integrating Cityworks into the VA811 call-before-you-dig helpline process, the Service Authority has significantly enhanced its automated workflows. The application has improved the handling of utility line location requests, reduced manual entry errors, and improved tracking and reporting capabilities, allowing the Service Authority to monitor the status of each ticket in real time.

"This award is a testament of the organization’s commitment to improving the way we manage our infrastructure assets. A special thank you to our team members from Operations and Maintenance, Engineering and Planning, Environmental Services and Water Reclamation and Data Management for doing the work to achieve this recognition,” said Jeanetta Williams, Director of Data Management at the Service Authority.

Cityworks empowers GIS for more than 40,000 users at over 700 organizations, serving communities with a combined population of over 80 million people globally.

The award was presented at the Trimble Innovate User Conference held in Cleveland, Ohio.
