April 21, 2025 – As a supporter of HB 2050, Prince William Water is pleased that Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin recently signed this legislation into law, a pivotal step toward combating PFAS pollution and protecting the Occoquan Reservoir.

PFAS (Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances)—often referred to as “forever chemicals”—include a class of more than 6,000 manmade chemicals that enter the environment through industrial processes and common household products. Water and wastewater utilities are passive recipients of these PFAS compounds.

“HB2050 represents significant progress in protecting the Occoquan Reservoir, which is a key drinking water source for Prince William Water customers,” said Prince William Water General Manager/CEO Calvin D. Farr, Jr., P.E. “By requiring industries to monitor, and ultimately remove, PFAS from water they discharge into the Occoquan Reservoir, this new law will help to ensure the safety and quality of our region’s drinking water.”

As always, Prince William Water will continue to work with our drinking water providers to safeguard public health and the environment, including meeting the new federal PFAS standards.
